Nabeela Iqbal

Nabeela Iqbal is an activist and peacebuilder. She is a recipient of the Chevening Award and completed her Human Rights Masters at University College London, UK. She is a Kofi Annan Changemaker and her work has been recognized by Amnesty International as a young human rights defender in the face of the pandemic. She is one of three recipients from across the Asia-Pacific region to the highly competitive William P Fuller Fellowship in Peacebuilding by The Asia Foundation for 2025 and part of Musawah’s Islam and gender equality and justice (I-nGEJ) Fellowship programme. She founded SI in 2020.

Angela Forman

Angela holds a background in Psychology and is currently completing her Master’s in Human Rights and Democratisation at the University of Colombo. She works across youth-led and community spaces on women’s and minority rights, social justice, and psychosocial wellbeing. At SI, Angela oversees core project administration and programmatic advocacy.

Muqaddasa Abdul Wahid

Muqaddasa is a public health professional and freelance journalist currently based in the United Kingdom with bylines in the Daily Mirror, Frontline, The Hindu and Sunday Times. She works in the intersection of human rights and health inequalities, with an interest in health and rights of women and minority communities. At SI, Muqaddasa works as our Co-Director, providing strategical oversight in ensuring organisational resilience.

Fawzul Himaya Hareed

Himaya is a Psychology graduate and writer. She is skilled in design, production and website development. At SI, Himaya works across facilitating dialogues and engagement on gender and women’s rights, with a focus on the challenges faced by Muslim women due to systemic and social discrimination.

Amani Raji

Amani is a qualified Attorney At Law who has been in legal practice for over two years. She is passionate about women’s rights and inspiring change. Her interests include the intersection between women, Islam and the law. At SI, Amani works closely with our Programmes Team, facilitating events online and offline.

Isuri Kumbukage

Isuri holds an LLB from the University of London and a Diploma in Human Rights from the University of Colombo. She is currently a second year student at the Sri Lanka Law College. Passionate about human rights and social justice, she has experience working with civil society organizations. At SI, she serves as a Programmes Coordinator, supporting the implementation of our projects.

Aliza Hussain

Aliza Hussain is currently pursuing her LLB and coaches debating alongside her studies. She is passionate about using writing as a mechanism of advocacy, focusing on the rights of minorities and women and aiming to spark conversations that lead to meaningful change. At SI, Aliza is part of our Programmes Team, where she helps design and facilitate events both online and offline.

Samiha Muhsin

Samiha Muhsin holds a Diploma and HND in Psychology and BSc in Psychology and Counseling. She is a mentee at the Commonwealth of Learning, Canada. At SI, she is an Organizer for the Kandy regional team and our Finance and Administration Coordinator.

Ameera Careem

Azra Jabbar

Azra holds a BA (Hons) in English and a Diploma in English Language Teaching and Psychology. She is passionate about language education, inclusive practices, learner wellbeing, and equity.

Sumaiya Frahath

Sumaiya Frahath is a Psychology and Counseling graduate from Matale, passionate about social work and committed to supporting individuals and communities in need. She has experience working with underprivileged children and adolescents, facilitating workshops, conducting community outreach programs, and volunteering with mental health care organizations. She is currently reading for an MPhil in Clinical Psychology, further developing her knowledge and skills in the field of mental health and psychological support. At SI, Sumaiya works as our Support Team Coordinator, providing psychosocial support to women who reach out to us.

Shifa Najmudeen

Shifa is a Lawyer with over seven years of professional experience in Sri Lanka and Qatar. Originally from Matale, she co-founded “The Girl Effect”, a grassroots community organisation focused on empowering and supporting young female entrepreneurs. She is currently based in Qatar, working as a Lawyer. At SI, she leads the Support Team where she provides legal counseling and support to young women facing discrimination in their own homes and family courts.

Aqilah Naleem

Aqilah holds a BA in English and is an educator who is experienced and trained in teaching children from diverse backgrounds and abilities. She is also an aspiring artist who’s skilled in design. At SI, she works as our Communications Co-Lead, putting her artistic eye into capturing the work we do.

Pathumika Eleperuma

Pathumika holds a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and works across administrative and community spaces. She also volunteers as a SUD & Behaviour Counselor, supporting individuals through their journeys. At SI, Pathumika serves as a Communications Co-Lead, contributing to strategic communications, storytelling, and advocacy.

Sakina Mansoorally

Sakina is pursuing a MBBS degree and works as an English tutor alongside her studies. She is passionate about gender justice and human rights and volunteers in community and grassroots level initiatives. Currently based in Pakistan, Sakina previously led the SI Programmes Team and has assisted the Communications team with her past experience in social media.

Sadanya Gnanamoorthy

Sadanya is currently reading for both her Attorney at Law and Bachelor in Law in Colombo. With a Diploma in Photography, Sadanya has a strong passion for storytelling through digital photography.
